Sue, you could do this now! Make a 2-part mold and insert a tiny hard-skinned gourd, still on the vine, inside it. When the gourd matures, take off the mold, and viola! A large violin!
Ive never had any luck with gourds,and Ive tried.Perhaps when we build our hot house-conservatory.I am thinking of putting quinces in bottles this year .although it seems kinda cruel.
