Quinces, such an obdurate fruit. I love me some quince jam -- what else can you do with them?
Not that this has anything to do with fruit, but years ago I had an aspiring novelist boyfriend whose nom de plume was Peter Quince, after a minor character in a Shakespeare play. (If he ever produced any novels, Amazon.com doesn't know about them.) I've been reminded of him lately because I'm reading The Russian Debutante's Handbook, which in written in a voice that somewhat reminds me of his, even though I never read any of his writing. If that makes any sense! Hope he's doing well.
