Almonds! Dang, I'm envious. Every year, I see an ad somewhere for a dwarf fig that I can raise indoors and get real fruit! Fresh figs!! From your own patio!!! You almond tree is exactly the kind of thing that is likely to push me over the edge, even though I know that its citrus counterpart, the dwarf lemon that I can raise indoors and get real fruit! Fresh figs!! From your own patio!!!
is a big fat lie.

I went back to the bar tonight. Was supposed to take Mom, but she wasn't feeling up for it. It was weird. My ex-boss waited on me, which made me feel apologetic because he's a nice guy and he keeps asking if I want my job back. They have a new chef. The gypsy schnitzel was a funny color (bright yellow) and no longer has too much garlic in the sauce, a feature I dearly loved.

Ya, first time I went to Cali I was blown away by what grows in that climate. The humble red geraniums we grow in pots, as annuals, for a spot of color grow out there in thickets -- huge bushes! Hedgerows!

The problem with the fruit dwarves here is not so much that they won't work in pots -- they will, given enough light. But they have to be indoors for 7 months, so they don't get the light they need, and they get all spindly and stop using water and so I overwater them and they wind up with sad nasty fungus. An enourmous outlay of energy and heartbreak for, at best, a couple of puny, under-developed fruit. I'll get my fruit at the store, thanks.
