We are trying the stacked tire method of Potato production this year-you build up the soil as the shoots come through. The carrots went in about a week ago ,if the weather is kind they should be up soon.Fingers crossed I really yearn for proper carrots.

Mmm, Spring! We had a frost scare last night. I've flunked potatoes two years in a row now. Maybe it's because I just don't want to dig them and have been trying to grow them in hay. Last year, rodents ate most of them. So this year I underlaid the whole bed with hardware cloth, put down hay and potatoes, then covered the whole thing with hardware cloth and weighted the edges with rocks. Only about a quarter of them even made a plant, and those that did are looking mighty spindly. Sigh. How I long for the lovely cloud-like texture of home-grown spuds!
The wonderful thing about gardening is, there's always next year.
