The regular visitors around here are stray cats, raccoons, and possums (and we keep them fed). Not to mention loads of pollen. Achoo.

I keep thinking they'll move away, but they haven't yet. They hang around the old barn foundation, which is full of defunct drains and other hidey holes. Two days ago I brought huge white Zeke dog down here for a sniff, and maybe a pee to remind the foxen they don't own the place. As we stood there, one, three, five... six kits popped out of the tunnel that leads to the open meadow and then stopped and backed into each other in the entry, like people coming out an office building to find it's raining. They were maybe six feet away, and me without my camera. Fortunately I had Zeke on a lead (he's untrustworthy and tends to disappear if he's allowed his head). But he was too surprised to move in any case. Takes a long time for signals to get from his head to his feet, y'know. So we all just stood there and blinked at one another for a long, long moment.

The next day there were two adult foxes with them, not just the usual frazzled mama, and one of them led the kits off into the woods. I thought they were gone for good then, and later that day when I saw one lone kit at the burrow in the middle of the meadow, I fretted that he (she?) had been left behind. But they're around yet. The grass is now so green and tall that they're easier to see and, I hope, will show better in photos. But it's harder to get close to them now.
